The"3rd Workshop on Actuarial Theory and Practice" was successfully held at the Central University of Finance and Economics, Academic Hall, Room 604.The workshop was participated by scholars from Nankai University, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, Central University of Finance and Economics, as well over 40 alumni and senior industry representatives fromChina Life Insurance,New ChinaLife Insurance,and TaikangLife Insurance.
This workshop conducted in-depth discussions on the following two main themes: "Asset-Liability Management: Progress and Future of Insurance Companies" and "TheDevelopment of Small and Medium-sized Insurance Companies: Bottlenecks and Outlets". Many senior practitioners shared their experienceand view, touching on issues including the function, impact and future of asset-liability management;whether it is meaningful to establish an asset-liability management systemand pointers for improvement; small and medium-sized companies’ bottleneck and development; whether the experience of well-managed companies can be replicated; whether it is necessary to establish an agency system and what kind of agency system should be established.In today’s business world,insurance practice issues are often in conflict with theoretical knowledge. Professor Li Bingqing pointed out that we should constantly seek problems from the industry, effectively utilize theoretical research to resolve practical problems, and the need of combining both academics and industry.
This workshop had facilitated a fantastic communication platform for academic and industry as well as for teachers and alumni. This workshop had also enhanced actuarial science development by our research institute and broadened the horizon for the participating students.
