Society of Actuaries Site Visit to CUFE

A team comprising of three members (Miss Nancy Behrens, Miss Gena Long, and Mr. Wai Sum Chan) and representing Society of Actuaries (SOA) conducted an in-depth assessment of our actuarial program at CUFE for the period April 19-20, 2019. The “vetting” was held in meeting room 602 of the Academic Hall. Vice President Prof. Shi Jianping, Assistant to President Prof. Li Tao, International Cooperation Department Dr. Zhang Xiaoyan, Director of CIAS Prof. Chen Jiancheng, Associate Director Prof. Zhou Ming and Prof. Zhou Hua, Department head Prof. Zheng Sujin, and other colleagues and students with more than 30 of us were involved in the vetting process.

The vetting lasted for one and a half days, evaluating a number of actuarial related issues, including meeting with the university leadership to have a better understanding on the development, achievement, support of the actuarial science program at the university level; inspecting the structure of the actuarial program and its connection to practice; meeting with undergraduate students and graduate students to verify the quality of teaching, examinations exemption, internship, employment opportunities, and others; speaking to actuarial professors about their teaching, research, as well as contribution to the society, among others.

CUFE and SOA jointly hosted a reception on the evening of April 19. The reception provided an informal but useful opportunity for the assessment team to speak to more than 20 of our actuarial alumni and employers in order to gauge the industry’s view on our actuarial program. Former Vice-President Prof. Li Junsheng, Dean of School of Insurance Prof. Li Xiaolin, Vice Dean of School of Insurance Xu Xiaohui, and Former Dean of School of Insurance Yao Yansu also participated at the reception.

The assessment team finally concluded their vetting on April 20. This visit is important to the implementation of “Double First Class” at CUFE, deepening our internationalization and cooperation activities.
