2018 China Insurance-Actuarial Scholars Forum

China Institute for Actuarial Science (CIAS) hosted “ China Insurance-Actuarial Scholars Forum”in Room 602, Academic Hall, Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) on March 24, 2018 from 10-12 noon. The invited speakers of this forum include Prof. Hu Taizhong of University of Science and Technology of China, Prof. Liang Zongxia of Tsinghua University, Prof. Qian Linyi of Eash China Normal University, Prof. Xie Yuantao of University of International Business and Economics, Prof. Xiao Zhengyan of Renmin University, Prof. Yu Wenguang of Shangdong University of Finance and Economics, Prof. Zhang Zhimin of Chongqing University, Prof. Zhang Xin of Southeast University, and Prof. Yichun Chi of CIAS.

Participants freely expressed their views on topics including opportunities and challenges faced by the insurance/actuarial fields (locally or abroad), actuarial science as a discipline its relative status (and importance) among the disciplines of economics, management science, and mathematics. With the objective of promoting rapid development of insurance-actuarial discipline and elevating the impact of academic research, participants suggested to capitalize on the Annual Meeting of China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. In-depth discussions continued on the name of the conference, size, venue, timing, conference fee, aim and positioning, etc.

Also, in response to strengthening collaboration between academics and industry and ensuring greater relevance of actuarial research on selected issues arising from the national policy, the forum reached the following consensus: (1) centralize the country’s research strength and through actuarial science and insurance mathematics theoretical research to achieve breakthrough and provide solutions to problems faced by the insurance industry; (2) provide assistance to university to start new specialization program in actuarial science, include supporting mathematics, and other subjects, in order to strengthen the impact of actuarial science discipline; (3) create a website to disseminate information such as insurance and actuarial related conferences, workshops, hiring, and so on.
